COUNTDOWN TO BONANZA - 11 DAYS FROM THE 16th

This week we will be working entirely on the Big Head Project.  Students found out their groups of 3 or 4 on Friday.  They will need to work cooperatively on creating their version of a cardboard head-it is up to them to decide who or what they want to make.  

DATES AND DEADLINES:

  1. MONDAY, APRIL 16th:  Work begins on the construction of the Big Heads

  2.  TUESDAY, APRIL 17th-Day of Service for Mr. Klusman.  10 days until Bonanza Day

  3. MONDAY, APRIL 23rd:  Poster Club will be meeting in the Art Room after school until approximately 4:00.   

  4. WEDNESDAY, April 25thPRE-BONANZA NIGHT- If it is easier to drop off your Bonanza the night before, the gym will be open from 6-8 pm. 

  5. THURSDAY, APRIL 26thBONANZA DAY—This is the day that all the Bonanza pieces are brought in, excluding pieces too big to fit inside…It’s like Christmas Day in the Art Room!!! (If you’re absent or do not have it on THIS day your exam grade will suffer IMMENSELY- 10 points for every day it is late!  **The only Bonanzas not coming in April 26th are pieces that won’t fit into the school.  These are displayed on the day of the Art Show –They are to be set up by 12:30, and taken home by 4:30 that day.  (Failure to do this impacts negatively on your exam grade)

  6. SUNDAY, APRIL 29th - THE ART SHOW- 1-4 pm- Bring your mom, your dad, your family, your girlfriend, your neighbors’ kids, your hedgehog- make it a celebration of great art!

  3. FRIDAY APRIL 13th:  Drawing based on the exercises that we did in class are DUE at the beginning of class.

With all the crazy schedules last week and this week, we will need to do some adjusting to our project schedule.  On Monday, we will continue the Drawing Exercises that we started last Monday.  Tuesday we will go over where these exercises will lead us.  And Wednesday we will start putting them into motion.

Week of February 26th-March 2nd, 2018

Students will continue work on their pipe drawing on Monday and Tuesday.  We will have a critique on Wednesday during class.  The piece will be evaluated on technical skill and creativity on how the concept of trapped was used.

DATES AND DEADLINES:

  1. MONDAY, FEB. 26th:  Poster Club will be meeting in the Art Room after school until approximately 4:00.  In Progress Critique of Trapped Piece.

  2. WEDNESDAY, FEB. 28th:  Trapped Piece DUE at the beginning of class  

  3. FRIDAY, MARCH 2nd:  Sketchbook Assignment #4 DUE

Week of February 5th-9th, 2018

Students will continue constructing their pipe form on Tuesday.  Then they will make 10 thumbnail sketches using part or all of their form.  The 10 sketches need to be finished by Thursday, Feb. 8th.  We will have a critique in class to go over which of the sketches has the most potential and then students will need to make some decisions on color of paper and type of pencils they would like to work with.  We will be focusing on the technical aspects of shading and the creation of form.  They will then introduce the idea of "Trapped"  into their drawing.

Week of January 29th-February 2nd, 2018

Happy Catholic Schools Week!  I hope that the creative minds in 2D Studio use those powers to their fullest on Monday for Crazy shirt/tie/hat/everything Day!  There will be 2 days this week that we will have shortened schedules:  Wednesday (#3) for an All School Mass and then Friday (#2) for a Winter Sports Pep Rally.  

We have Monday to continue working on the Artist Inspired piece.  It will be DUE Tuesday, Jan. 30th at the beginning of class.

Wednesday, Jan. 31st, we will begin work on a new project.

Week of January 22nd-26th, 2018 (Mrs. Plagge)

This week you will be working on your project that reflects the subject matter/style/color palette of the artist that you were given.  This piece will be DUE MONDAY, JAN. 29th.  You will have all week in class to work on this project.  Remember that we will have an 83 minute class on Tuesday and will not meet on Wednesday.  Class on Friday will only be 36 minutes because of Career Day.

  1. MONDAY, JAN. 22nd:  Poster Club is meeting in the Art Room after school until 4:00 (or earlier).  
  2. MONDAY, JAN. 29th:  Your piece based on your specific artist (details above) is DUE at the beginning of class.

2018 Semester Sketchbook Assignments (Mrs. Plagge)

Some Advice:

  • These sketches are an interpretation of the prompt and media used in their completion is up to you.
  • Each sketch should be worked on for more than a half-hour.
  • They could be hand drawn, digitally created, or even done with collage.
  • You will be required to do 8 of the 16 sketchbook prompts listed below.  You may choose which prompts you would like to do.
  • The Due Dates for the assignments are listed below the prompts.

·        You may always work ahead and are encouraged to add additional writings, drawings and inspiration in the sketchbook or even do more than the 8 required for the semester.

 PROMPTS:                                                          

1)    Draw something you have never drawn before.         

2)    Draws something that you couldn’t live without.        

3)    Draw the world from an ant’s point of view,                                 

4)    Draw an animal with a person’s face.                                

5)    Draw a picture of a person (it could be you or someone else) if they grew flowers instead of hair.

6)    Draw an animal taking a human for a walk.

7)    Draw an interesting object from three different angles.

8)    Draw an object you possess or have nearby, but make it look like its Draw melting.

9)    Draw a tree that grows something other than leaves.

10)  Draw something you think sounds or smells incredible.

11)  Draw something that needs fixing.

12)  Place a few objects on a white piece of paper, only draw the shadows.

13)  Draw your bedroom as if it was inside a container like a teapot, jar, cardboard box, etc.

14)  Draw a soft object with a steel surface with screws, rivets and bolts.

15)  Hold a tube of paper up to your eye and draw your point of view.

16)  Draw Quiet.
