Week of February 15th-19th

"Great things are done by a series of small things put together."

-Vincent Van Gogh

Hopefully, everyone had a good President's Day off and will be ready to be back at school on Tuesday.  This week the students will be finishing up their sketches of : 3 eyes, 3 noses, 3 mouths and 3 ears in their sketchbooks.  Ideally, they should be finished by the end of Tuesday's class, but their sketchbooks will be collected on THURSDAY, FEB. 18th.

As soon as they finish the practice sketches they may begin work on the self-portrait pencil drawings.  Last week I went over several methods of drawing faces in proportion.  They were introduced to Guidelines, creating Grids and also working completely freehand.  They are to choose the best method for themselves to create the strongest piece they can.

On Friday or Monday of next week we will be cutting out their practice noses, eyes, etc. and piecing them back together to create a small fractured face reminiscent of Cubist artists.  This is a fast composition that will take most likely less than one day.

Most of the week will be devoted to the self-portrait drawing.
